HISTORY: THE BULL & CLIFTON

As you can see from the photograph on the right, which is of a plaque formerly attached to the building, the Bull Inn has its origins in the 16th century, as a farm building. In the 19th century with the advent of coaching inns, the Bull became a public house, with accommodation both for customers and their horses. Some evidence of the rear stables still exists on what is now the beer garden. The Bull was one of two public houses in the village, the other one being the Red Lion, which no longer exists, having been converted into the cottages and the Townsend Hall which can be seen directly opposite the Bull.
